Comment: We had a thoroughly enjoyable trip! We took a 7 night lodge safariand it was fabulous.

The service was outstanding, right through from booking over email, being picked up from the airport, the driving between each park, the game drives and being returned safely to our flight.

Our guide Ben was excellent. He had a great eye for spotting the wildlife, was very knowledgeable and informative, and he was also very patient and willing to accommodate our personal preferences in terms of extra activities, times of drives etc. We felt very safe with Ben and would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone else.

We saw all of the big 5 and so much more. We took away some incredible photos and memories of being so close to the beautiful animals.

On the downside, our van had some electrical problems that caused it to break down on several occasions. Having said this, our driver was able to fix this each time within just 5-10 minutes.

Also, we felt we were ill-informed about the terrible road to the Masia Mara. Had we known, we would have opted for a flight from Samburu to the Masai Mara, as we felt the 6-7 hour journey on very uncomfortable roads was a bit of a waste out of our precious 7 day safari. I would highly recommend others to opt for the flight.

Overall we rate the tour as excellent and highly recommended. We found the operator to be very good value and offered a very professional, trustworthy service. All the best for the future - we hope to send some more people from NZ to see you soon!

Comment: The safari operator made our journey and vaccation a memory for life and an excellent experience! I don't think we could have gotten a better guide or better follow up from the company.

Our guide, Peter, was competent, friendly and listened to all our requests. He really made an effort to make our journey a good one! And Siema at the office handled everything around the trip in a most splendid way. He was friendly, informative and easy to contact and get answers from, both from home and in place in Nairobi.

All in all, we believe that this journey was one of the best we'd ever did. Much thanks to them all.

Comment: In reference to my safari, I have to say that was wonderfull, every thing they offer was received and our guide was so diligent to get the big five, we were group of four and all will recomend them to our friends and relatives.

We learned to bargain in the markets and enjoy to do this but some times that is to much.

The hotels in general were good and the people was always so kind, smiling and alert to solve anything.

Comment: My daughters and I completed a 1-week safari in Kenya a week and a half ago.

We thoroughly enjoyed the safari and Kenya (our first visit toAfrica). The schedule and itinerary was difficult at times for the girls (ages 8 and 9) but they appreciated opportunity to see such an amazing array of animals in their natural habitat and children from the Samburu and Massai tribes.

My highlight was when we were in the middle of a herd of 20 elephants in Samburu. Our driver, Joe, was most dependable and pleasant to have in our group.

Comment: We had a memorable experience on our Safari.

The Children enjoyed every single day. The hotels were wonderful, and the driver-guide very nice as well.

I will recomend this operator to my friends since I felt they were all the time taking care of all the details for the Safari.

Comment: The whole trip was magnificent. I will go into specifics for each part:

Nairobi- The people were cordial, friendly, and attentive. There was an unexpected delay in my flight schedule and they were able to accommodate that change seamlessly. I was a bit disappointed with the hotel. It was not what I expected but in the end it was ok.

Arusha/ Mt. Kilimanjaro- The guide and porters were great. I am concerned though that they maybe misinformed about what to expect as far as tips. Especially when the trip only involves one person. They were friendly and very helpful.

Kenya safari- The guide/ driver was great. He was very informative and friendly. I had lost a credit card and he went out of his way to help me. I greatly appreciated it. Too bad the roads are so bad. But he was an excellent driver.

Zanzibar- The hotel was fabulous. I really enjoyed the rest. The staff was friendly and really nice. Even though I was alone I did not feel like that because the staff was really welcoming.

All in all it was a magnificent trip. I have recommended it to my friends.

Comment: I chose to safari with you for three reasons. They were endorsed by the Kenya Travel Bureau. They provided a private safari for what others charged for packaged tours with 6-18 strangers. Everything that they did was done professionally.

I was not disappointed in my selection. Ben as our driver/guide because Dusty is an avid bird-watcher. He was well versed in his bird knowledge and had a keen eye for the most obscure birds. He also seemed to have an excellent insight on just how and where to find any animal on request. I would just mention an animal, like the reticulated giraffe, and he would make a few turns and find one. We saw everything that we hoped to see with one exception. We did not see a Somali ostrich.

We did see a vervet monkey, baboon, black and white colobus, jackal, slender mongoose, spotted hyena, lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, elephant, plains zebra, Grevy's zebra, white rhino, black rhino, warthog, hippo, masai giraffe, reticulated giraffe, Rothschild's giraffe, wildebeest, hartbeest, topi, impala, Grant's gazelle, Thomson's gazelle, gerenuk, buffalo, bushbuck, oryx, dik-dik, waterbuck, squirrel, mouse, cape hare, agama lizard, and Nile crocodile. Then there were the birds we saw. For that you can ask my wife.

Ben was responsible for more than just driving and showing us the animals. He also had to change flat tires two times and have the grill welded once on his down time. This is not a reflection on the quality of your equipment, but an indication of just how rough it is on the roads and trails in Kenya. The safari van was excellent. A new Nissan with space for eight people that had only 3000 km on the odometer when we started (but much more by the end). And I do hope that insurance paid for the window that was broken when another vehicle knocked a rock into it.

The rough roads and the hawkers trying to sell us bananas and bracelets were a little uncomfortable, but that is part of traveling. This was Kenya, not Disneyland. I appreciate the hardships as much as the incredible beauty. For someone who cannot take the long drives on rough roads I would recommend a flying safari. My wife and I did this when we were young because we knew it was not for sissies.

Short story:
Last day of safari in Massai Mara. A group of vans and jeeps is surrounding a ravine. Ben says that there is a lion going after a cheetah. We see a female cheetah walking out of the ravine looking back over her shoulder. The male lion is in the ravine. Ben says that lions kill baby cheetahs. Sad. Later another guide drives out of the ravine with a small bundle in a towel. He drops it in a field behind the cheetah. It makes small chirping sounds. It is a baby cheetah! Mother does not respond. After a while another guide picks it up (again in a towel to avoid scent) and drops it 30-meters in front of the mother. Ben says she may reject the baby. Mother goes over and sniffs the baby. She looks around. She sniffs. She looks. Long 1-2 minute pause. She picks up baby in her mouth and trots away. Tears fill eyes around the field. Happy ending.

Thank you for our happy ending.

Comment: Our safari through Kenya and Tanzania was terrific, the game parks exceeded our expectations, the accomodation blended in with the scenery, the people we encountered continually echoed Acoona matata. As you can tell we had a terrific time.

The safari operator is very professional and provided a memorable expereince. The service is quite tailored to your needs, so you get to see and expereince everything that adds up to making a great safari expereince. Both Sahra and Julious (our guide) made our trip very memorable. For people considering travelling, look into the diversity of offers out there, you can mix a trip up between camping in very nice tents (which include toilets etc), basic camping through to some very nice lodges with game viewing from your front window. Knowing you have a lot of options will allow you to customise your tour to suits your travel style.

The local people look for your trade, but remember you can trade more than your currency, pens and paper are very common requests. Don't forget your binoculars and if you ever wanted to upgrade your camera, nows the time.

Comment: We had a fantastic holiday.

The safari operator is a very efficient and a well run company.

The itinerary which was put together was excellent. We travelled in 3 countries and had a different guide for each country. All the guides were waiting to meet us at the appropriate place, and were courteous, very knowledgeable and caring for our well being. The vehicles used were comfortable and reliable (no break down in 23 days over very rough roads.) The accommodation over all was very good, (the one which we considered not up to scratch and informed the office about, was being replaced whilst we were on the next leg of our safari.)

I would recommend using the company for any travel/safari in East Africa.

Comment: Our safari was just wonderful. I loved every minute of it. Serah made all the arrangements and she did a wonderful job as I added a couple of add ons to the itinerary. I added Amboseli National Park and I am glad I did as this was just breath-taking.

All the lodges and staff were just brilliant. Our guide David collected us from the airport and was with us for the entire trip. He had a great sense of humour and I have never laughed so much in my entire life. Great guy. David could spot an animal a mile away therefor we got to see just about everything. (The big five anyway)

We also added the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - the orphaned baby elephants. This sanctuary is amazing. I must when in Nairobi. Also the Giraffe manor is heaps of fun and I also loved Karen Blixen museum. Definately do all three as you can do it in one day.

I would highly recommend this company and will use them again. I am now planning a trip to Tanzania which David gave me a few tips.

Thankyou to Serah, David and all the staff at all the lodges. We had an amazing time and look forward to going again some time soon.

Comment: Time flies but it has never flown as fast as it did in Africa for us. We wanted to prolong each day in Africa, but our almost 20 days there seemed like a moment in our lives. A moment to cherish forever -- or at least until our next trip!

Thank you for the fabulous arrangements the operator made for us. As far as we are concerned nothing went wrong and everything was just perfect. If we had been impressed by what we read about them before we came to Kenya, we were even more so after we met them. Congratulations to the operator and their staff for taking such good care of their clients. We certainly appreciate it and are grateful.

The game drives were superb, the driver-guides knowledgeable and friendly, the hotels comfortable, the food good, and though the famous potholes on the roads were destroyed even further by the long 'short rains', they were almost imperceptible to us, so lost we were in savouring the beauty around us. Even though Samburu was greener than expected, Aberdares drier, Masai Mara wetter and Serengeti and other northern circuit parks in Tanzania more insect infested than expected, our joy at the large number of animals our guides managed to show us was unbounded.

We hesitate to put down the numbers or names of animals we saw, just as we hesitate to describe the beauty of Kenya and Tanzania -- the nature and the people -- for no words could do justice. The pictures are etched in our memories and we hesitate at the moment even to look at the pictures we took or the moments we recorded for fear of spoiling the beauty of what we experienced.

Our only regret is that we were the intruders

Comment: From my first correspondence with the operator, they were fantastic. They created a safari that suited my desires, and were always open to making changes and alterations to the agenda. They never forced anything on me; they simply provided all possible options, and let me make the decisions.

The safari itself turned out to be better than I ever imagined! We were pleasantly met at Nairobi airport, and we had no worries for the next sixteen days while in Tanzania and Kenya. Our driver/guides in each of the countries were super and did everything they could to accommodate us. The lodges were beautiful, clean, and the meals at them were magnificent.

Overall, I would highly the safari operator to anyone looking for any type of safari in Kenya or Tanzania.

Comment: From the moment the Africa Guide website set us up with the contact information all the way to the end of the safari, it was a good enjoyable experience.

The tour operator was very professional and reliable and were very helpful in helping us find the most suitable safari package. When we arrived in kenya 4 days prior to the safari we wanted to change our driving arrangements to flying arrangements and without any sort of hassel the operator changed our itinerary to exactly what we wanted.

The safari was a great experience and was made much more enjoyable by making it easy on us to plan it. If I ever do a safari again, this operaotr is definately the company I'm going to use to plan it.

Comment: We were provided with a great service from the time our guide met us at the airport until we returned to Nairobi to fly out.

We had an incredible adventure over 10 days on a lodge safari in Kenya visiting Samburu, Lake Baringo, Mt. Kenya, Nakuru and finally in the Masaii Mara. We saw the Big 5 and were absolutely blown away with the amount of animals we saw and the ability to get so close to them in their natural habitat.

It was a most memorable vacation thanks to the tour operator and their competence in arranging everything we wanted and needed to make it great!

Comment: My wife and I recently spent a wonderful safari in Kenya and Tanzania.

We travelled to various National Parks in both countries. Our accomodations and meals were superb. Our guides were very helpful and courteous, showing us many animals to photograph (this was basically a photo safari).

The only thing that we found disappointing was that we were discouraged from photographing the people of the country, which to us is an important part of a photographic story.

Overall, a good trip.

Comment: Our l6 day Safari was a wonderful experience.

Accomadations were excellent and the food great. We had two very good guides that were most knowledgeable about the animals and birds. The both went beyond the call to please us. We have lots of wonderful pictures and memories.

Comment: The safari operator conducted it'self in a professional manner and the staff was competent.

What particularly surprised me was how good the food was and the attention to detail. I also appreciated the respect paid to punctuality when daily schedules and times were established.

I was satisfied with the level of service and would recomend them to others on the basis of service while on Safari.

About our trip providers and reviews

Our Trip Providers

We carry out extensive company checks on all our providers, over 20 years we have built strong personal relationships with each of them, which assures you of an unparalleled service, great value and the trip of a lifetime.
We have participated in many of the trips found here (we have a nice job) and make our own independent assessments of the services provided, ensuring they meet with our own high standards.

All the trips are supplied by the end provider of that trip.
You may find the same or similar trips elsewhere, usually these are offered by an agent.
We prefer to give you direct access to the trip provider for reasons outlined below:

  1. Best price.
The price you see here is the direct trip price set by the provider, the same price as purchasing directly with them (which is how it works), there are no added commissions.
This means you are not paying an agents commission and the provider is receiving their fully budgeted trip cost.
(agents can demand discounts from providers as well as adding commissions to the providers trip price)
  2. Easy customisation.
By booking directly with the end provider, making changes is quick and easy.
  3. Fast problem solving.
On the rare occasion that an issue may arise before or during your trip, by dealing directly with the end provider, problem solving is quick and efficient.
  4. Helping Africa help itself.
The most straightforward way to assist the economic opportunities and conditions for local people across Africa, is by direct financial interaction with people in Africa. In a nutshell "Tourism".
This kind of direct tourism gives opportunity to local people.

We limit the number of providers we work with in order to strike a balance between a good choice of trips and to be sure we can honestly recommend the service and validity of each provider.
Because the majority of trips can be customised by the providers, the choice of trip configurations is in the tens of thousands.

Our Reviews

We have 3,000+ reviews for our trips and providers.
All our reviews are fully qualified, we do not take unqualified reviews.
We show all reviews, the good and the critical (very few). Our providers have the ability to respond to reviews and those responses are shown alongside the review.
Acquiring genuine reviews is actually very hard, for our genuine travellers we make this an easy process but many people although satisfied with the service they received do not leave a review.

Many reviews on the internet can be left by an open process with little or no checks.
At best unqualified reviews are worthless, at worst they are misleading. We never take unqualified reviews.

We hope you find a trip to your liking and we are here to assist.

Wishing you happy travels...
