Eagle Encounters receives rehabilitates birds of prey that have been injured, poisoned, abused or hand-reared. When they are fit, healthy and able to hunt and breed again they are released into the wild. Only hand-reared birds are kept for education purposes. There’s much more to the centre than just birds, though! Hang out with Sonic the porcupine and Drogon, the bearded dragon and marvel at the family of Cape dwarf chameleons.
• Historic Stellenbosch

Day 5:
Transfer to Cape Town Airport included

Day 5-7: Talamati (private bushveld lodge/central Kruger)
(2 NIGHTS)
This private bushveld lodge is ideally situated in the central Kruger NP. Our drives and activities include several dams, open savanna and thorn thickets with some amazing riverbeds and pools to explore. Elephants, lion and buffalo are prolific in this area as well as the endangered cheetah.

Night time at Talamati plays host to unbelievable African wildlife sounds, and you are sure to see many animals at the waterhole by simply sitting in the game viewing hide for an hour or two. Bird watching is also prolific. A resident troop of baboons is always seen foraging around the camp in the evenings.
Accommodation is in two private en-suite two-bedroomed cottages that each sleep six people (fresh linen and towels included).

Day7-10 Mopani Camp (restcamp/north western Kruger)
(3 NIGHTS)

The pervasive Mopani tree found in the Pioneer Dam area of Kruger National Park lends both its aesthetic and its name to this primary rest camp. Thatched buildings with rock faced walls blend seamlessly into the natural environment, materials used to construct these buildings including rough stone, wood and thatching-grass.

Huddled against and overlooking the banks of the dam, visitors can take advantage of the winter trend for park animals to move towards water sources as they migrate towards the dam's edge, providing excellent viewing opportunities.
The Tropic of Capricorn loop and the Nshawu pans areas allow for game viewing from open plains which host blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, buffalo and the rarer tsessebe, as well as the smaller Black-Backed Jackal and caracal.
Bird watching is centred on the Pioneer Dam, where storks, egrets, kingfishers and African Fish Eagles are to be seen, with occasional appearances from white Collared (Red-winged) Pratincole, African Spoonbill, Black-winged Stilt and White-winged Tern.

Accommodation is in a large, luxury guesthouse in prime position with a view of the dam. Equipped with a kitchen and microwave oven, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, limited channel DSTV television, and braai facilities, the sleeping cottages are loose standing and separate to the lounge/dining area. This guest house will be used for all mealtimes.

In both locations your guide and chef will host hospitality and mealtimes from their cottage and mealtimes from Mopani will be hosted from the guest house.

Departure day
We always fit in an early morning game drive, and of course, a hearty breakfast before departure back to the airport.

About Our Reviews

Our reviews are Fully Qualified

We do not take reviews from unqualified sources

Since 1996 we have been working with the best tour operators in Africa. Our unique relationship with those operators ensures only people who have participated in a trip after making an enquiry for it at AfricaGuide.com can leave a review.

The email we send you when you make an enquiry has full instructions for registering a booking and leaving a review - both are free services.

Feel free to read through the reviews for any trip you like the look of.

Trips with no reviews are usually new to AfricaGuide.com but are normally operated by a tour operator who is established here and has gained operator reviews for you to read.

Thanks for visiting, happy travels and don't forget to send us your reviews...

About our trip providers and reviews

Our Trip Providers

We carry out extensive company checks on all our providers, over 20 years we have built strong personal relationships with each of them, which assures you of an unparalleled service, great value and the trip of a lifetime.
We have participated in many of the trips found here (we have a nice job) and make our own independent assessments of the services provided, ensuring they meet with our own high standards.

All the trips are supplied by the end provider of that trip.
You may find the same or similar trips elsewhere, usually these are offered by an agent.
We prefer to give you direct access to the trip provider for reasons outlined below:

  1. Best price.
The price you see here is the direct trip price set by the provider, the same price as purchasing directly with them (which is how it works), there are no added commissions.
This means you are not paying an agents commission and the provider is receiving their fully budgeted trip cost.
(agents can demand discounts from providers as well as adding commissions to the providers trip price)
  2. Easy customisation.
By booking directly with the end provider, making changes is quick and easy.
  3. Fast problem solving.
On the rare occasion that an issue may arise before or during your trip, by dealing directly with the end provider, problem solving is quick and efficient.
  4. Helping Africa help itself.
The most straightforward way to assist the economic opportunities and conditions for local people across Africa, is by direct financial interaction with people in Africa. In a nutshell "Tourism".
This kind of direct tourism gives opportunity to local people.

We limit the number of providers we work with in order to strike a balance between a good choice of trips and to be sure we can honestly recommend the service and validity of each provider.
Because the majority of trips can be customised by the providers, the choice of trip configurations is in the tens of thousands.

Our Reviews

We have 3,000+ reviews for our trips and providers.
All our reviews are fully qualified, we do not take unqualified reviews.
We show all reviews, the good and the critical (very few). Our providers have the ability to respond to reviews and those responses are shown alongside the review.
Acquiring genuine reviews is actually very hard, for our genuine travellers we make this an easy process but many people although satisfied with the service they received do not leave a review.

Many reviews on the internet can be left by an open process with little or no checks.
At best unqualified reviews are worthless, at worst they are misleading. We never take unqualified reviews.

We hope you find a trip to your liking and we are here to assist.

Wishing you happy travels...
