Day 1 – 2
Our tour begins in Pretoria. Starting early, we travel east through the Mpumalanga province to the Greater Kruger area. Kruger is South Africa’s premier national park and connecting with parks in adjoining Mozambique and Botswana, covers 24,000 square kilometres of land used in the protection of African wildlife! Over dinner, we enjoy a Shangaan cultural evening including traditional dance. We enjoy a full day’s game viewing in the national park in an open 4x4 safari vehicle, seeking wildlife encounters with Africa’s ‘Big 5’ - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – as well as giraffe, hippo, zebra, various antelope and a variety of amazing birdlife and reptiles.

Day 3 – 5
Leaving Kruger, we move north pausing the night near the Limpopo River to the Beitbridge Border. Completing formalities at the border post we enter Zimbabwe and drive through stunning landscapes to Bulawayo, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe. Here we enjoy the evening exploring the city and the bustling nightlife. The following day we explore Matobo National Park with a local operator by vehicle and foot to view the endangered Rhino's that inhabit the area, the many roaming animals and some bushman paintings which are located in nearby caves.

Day 6 – 8
Today, we cross into Zambia and drive to Livingstone and our camp situated on the banks of the Zambezi River. Feed your hunger for adrenaline with white water rafting, bungee jumping, abseiling, gorge swinging and amazing scenic flights (microlight, helicopter or small plane) or enjoy the surroundings on canoeing safaris and horse riding treks. However, don’t leave without seeing the thundering Victoria Falls themselves. At over a mile wide and over 100 metres deep, the Falls produce the world’s largest curtain of falling water in the world. Up close they are formidable and at times of high water, the spray can be seen from 20 kilometres away, hence their local name Mosi Oa Tunya – the ‘smoke that thunders’.

NB For the sake of practicality, meals in the Livingstone/Victoria Falls area are restricted to breakfasts. This allows you to take on half-day or full-day activities (some of which include lunch) without having to be back with the group at mealtimes. The Waterfront camp restaurant overlooks the Zambezi River and offers a good selection of reasonably priced meals and snacks throughout the day (we suggest you allow US$25-$35/ day).

Day 9 – 15
From Livingstone we continue north, passing through Lusaka en route to South Luangwa National Park for two nights where we enjoy a game drive. Moving on, we reach Malawi, the ‘warm heart’ of Africa. Passing through Lilongwe we reach the enormous Lake Malawi, Africa’s third-largest lake, where we camp on sandy beaches, enjoy the swimming and meet the famously friendly locals.

Day 16 – 23
We continue along the lake-shore and into Tanzania. Travelling through some remote areas, we pass through Mikumi National Park before reaching the Indian Ocean coast and port city, Dar es Salaam. ‘Dar’ is Tanzania’s main commercial centre and the jump-off point for Zanzibar - the ‘Spice Island’! Time here is at your leisure. Rich in history, Zanzibar offers a blissful mix of exotic spice markets, winding alleyways and old palaces as well as sparkling, blue ocean and long stretches of palm-fringed sands. Your tour will end on the arrival back to Dar es Salaam.

NB. As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic tourist class accommodation on Zanzibar is included in the Local Payment but for the sake of flexibility meals are left for your own account. Typically we spend one night in Stone Town and the next two nights in the north of the island at one of the beaches. Your tour leader will be available to assist if you experience any problems but there are no set activities - the time is entirely at leisure

About Our Reviews

Our reviews are Fully Qualified

We do not take reviews from unqualified sources

Since 1996 we have been working with the best tour operators in Africa. Our unique relationship with those operators ensures only people who have participated in a trip after making an enquiry for it at AfricaGuide.com can leave a review.

The email we send you when you make an enquiry has full instructions for registering a booking and leaving a review - both are free services.

Feel free to read through the reviews for any trip you like the look of.

Trips with no reviews are usually new to AfricaGuide.com but are normally operated by a tour operator who is established here and has gained operator reviews for you to read.

Thanks for visiting, happy travels and don't forget to send us your reviews...

About our trip providers and reviews

Our Trip Providers

We carry out extensive company checks on all our providers, over 20 years we have built strong personal relationships with each of them, which assures you of an unparalleled service, great value and the trip of a lifetime.
We have participated in many of the trips found here (we have a nice job) and make our own independent assessments of the services provided, ensuring they meet with our own high standards.

All the trips are supplied by the end provider of that trip.
You may find the same or similar trips elsewhere, usually these are offered by an agent.
We prefer to give you direct access to the trip provider for reasons outlined below:

  1. Best price.
The price you see here is the direct trip price set by the provider, the same price as purchasing directly with them (which is how it works), there are no added commissions.
This means you are not paying an agents commission and the provider is receiving their fully budgeted trip cost.
(agents can demand discounts from providers as well as adding commissions to the providers trip price)
  2. Easy customisation.
By booking directly with the end provider, making changes is quick and easy.
  3. Fast problem solving.
On the rare occasion that an issue may arise before or during your trip, by dealing directly with the end provider, problem solving is quick and efficient.
  4. Helping Africa help itself.
The most straightforward way to assist the economic opportunities and conditions for local people across Africa, is by direct financial interaction with people in Africa. In a nutshell "Tourism".
This kind of direct tourism gives opportunity to local people.

We limit the number of providers we work with in order to strike a balance between a good choice of trips and to be sure we can honestly recommend the service and validity of each provider.
Because the majority of trips can be customised by the providers, the choice of trip configurations is in the tens of thousands.

Our Reviews

We have 3,000+ reviews for our trips and providers.
All our reviews are fully qualified, we do not take unqualified reviews.
We show all reviews, the good and the critical (very few). Our providers have the ability to respond to reviews and those responses are shown alongside the review.
Acquiring genuine reviews is actually very hard, for our genuine travellers we make this an easy process but many people although satisfied with the service they received do not leave a review.

Many reviews on the internet can be left by an open process with little or no checks.
At best unqualified reviews are worthless, at worst they are misleading. We never take unqualified reviews.

We hope you find a trip to your liking and we are here to assist.

Wishing you happy travels...
